近年來隨著國內和國際形勢的發(fā)展,我國對外語人才的需求日益增加,有志于學習外語的學生和社會群體的人數急劇上升,從而使我國外語教學事業(yè)蓬勃發(fā)展。在這種形勢下,外語師資培訓和自身建設的重要性與日俱增。在這兩方面,當務之急是要了解當今國外外語教學的發(fā)展情況,要借鑒國外的最新經驗,結合我國的具體情況,大力提高外語師資的水平,使我們的外語教學事業(yè)更上一層樓。

有鑒于此,上海外語教育出版社為廣大外語教師提供了一套由國外弓l進的外語教學法叢書。這套叢書所涉及的方面廣、種類多,包括外語教學技巧和原則、語法教學、語音教學、閱讀教學、寫作教學、教學管理、測試、教材選擇、第一語言和第二語言習得、兒童英語教學等等。其中絕大多數專著是上世紀九十年代和本世紀所出版。它們反映了當今國外外語教學法研究及相關學科的現狀。

這套叢書的最大共同特點,也是與傳統(tǒng)教學法類專著的最大不同點在于特別強調理論與實踐相結合;更是以實踐為主,再以理論去分析評述各種實踐活動的優(yōu)缺點。我們所熟悉的傳統(tǒng)教學法類專著,一般都是強調教學原則、教學理論,把各種方法的來龍去脈講得很詳盡;然而如何到課堂上去進行具體教學活動,如何在教學活動中去體現教學原則卻不多見。這套叢書則幾乎全部是從實踐活動著手,以說明對理論和原則的應用。
